It doesn't matter that Congress has declared pizza as a vegetable for school lunches, if it has two tablespoons of ketchup spread over a slice.
IT IS NOT. Ketchup is high in sodium and the bulk of its calories come from sugar. There's no doubt that we all enjoy ketchup every now and then, but this is a shocking and outrageous decision. It compromises the nutritional standards for our children and a slap in the face for the fight against obesity.
But as a small local business, there isn't much we can do except to remind our customers and readers that it's ever more important to ensure that your own children are eating right, even if others who should do not.
